The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 6 inches by 60 inches and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting and long-life performance during more aggressive dry sanding applications. This belt is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that provides a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern and should not be used with wet sanding. The aluminum oxide mineral is popular for its cut-rate, durability, and long life and is commonly used on a wide variety of materials, including ferrous alloys, in both woodworking and metalworking. The resin bond securely adheres the abrasive particles to the cloth backing, allowing it to withstand high heat and pressure. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools across applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature different splice types, including a film media splice, which minimizes chatter marks for smooth running and consistent finishing, and a sine wave splice composed of interlocking fingers that promote smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength.
