The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 6 inches by 108 inches and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing a continuous cut and long life. Its open coat and load-resistant coating make it particularly effective for sanding soft woods, and the washable backing is suitable for high production environments where the belt may need washing at intervals to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used by industrial professionals due to its fast cut rate, durability, and versatility on a variety of materials, including woodworking and metalworking applications with ferrous alloys. Abrasive particles are adhered with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. This belt fits many belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors.
