The 3M™ cloth belt 340D measures 6" x 48" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing a fast cut and long life. This belt has an open coat and load-resistant coating, making it particularly suitable for sanding soft woods, and its washable backing supports high production environments by allowing removal of soft wood resin or pitch buildup through washing. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, suitable for woodworking, metalworking, and ferrous alloys. The resin bond between abrasive particles and cloth backing withstands high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, the belt fits different belt sanding tools for wood and metal applications; wider belts serve wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat narrow surfaces, and narrow belts are used with portable sanders for blending wood pieces. Belt splices include film media splices, which ensure a secure bond and smooth running with minimal chatter marks for consistent finishes, and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that reduce hinging, travel smoothly over contact wheels, and strengthen the joint for coarser grades and wide belts.
