The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2-1/2" x 60" and features P240 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing designed for continuous cut and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It provides a consistent, fine finish on metal through its closed coat construction, suitable for producing a grain pattern and should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is a durable, fast-cutting abrasive commonly used on woodworking and metalworking materials including ferrous alloys, with abrasive particles securely bonded to the cloth backing using resin to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanders; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel, medium-width belts are suited for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts fit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood items like cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined by different splices including film media splices, which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices constructed of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area; sine wave splices are commonly used for coarser applications.
