The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measuring 2-1/2" x 96" with 80 grit aluminum oxide features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing designed for continuous cut and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral provides high cut-rate, durability, and long life and is appropriate for woodworking and metalworking on various materials including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to the cloth backing, creating a strong bond that resists high heat and pressure. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanders, from wide belts for wide belt sanders used in dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges to medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include different splices such as a film media splice that secures the belt ends with a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running with consistent finishing results, and a sine wave splice composed of interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically used for coarser applications.
