The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 4" x 59-1/2" with 24 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It features a closed coat construction suitable for finishing metal surfaces, offering a consistent fine finish and producing a grain pattern. This belt is designed for dry use only and is not to be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive grains are strongly adhered to the cloth backing with resin, allowing the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough cut metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, while narrow belts are intended for portable belt sanders for tasks like sanding or blending cabinet door wood pieces. Belt splices vary, including film media splices that use a joining film for secure bonds, minimizing chatter marks and ensuring smooth running and consistent finishes; sine wave splices feature interlocking fingers designed to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and enhance joint strength, typically used for coarser applications.
