The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 4" x 60" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance ideal for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for metal finishing, its closed coat construction delivers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing grain patterns. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral offers a balance of cut-rate, durability, and longevity, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts like this are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools, with wider belts for wide belt sanders used in dimensioning and finishing wood panels or smoothing metal sheet edges, medium widths for edge sanders to work on flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow widths for portable belt sanders suited for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belt splices vary; the film media splice uses a joining film that reduces chatter marks and ensures smooth running and consistent finishing, while the sine wave splice consists of interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and enhanced joint strength, with sine wave splices typically applied for coarser grits.
