The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 4" x 60" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. The belt is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial settings for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, and it is effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. Abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, providing a strong adhesion that withstands high heat and pressure. The belts come in various widths and lengths suitable for different sanding tools and applications; wider belts are for wide belt sanders used in dimensioning or finishing wood panels and metal sheets, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts are intended for portable belt sanders to sand or blend smaller wood pieces. Belt splices vary, including film media splices that create secure bonds with joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth operation, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area.
