The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3" x 21" and features 50 grit fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is appropriate for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral offers cut-rate efficiency, durability, and long life, usable on a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are attached to the cloth backing with resin, forming a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. Available in many widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit various belt sanding tools for different applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are suited for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough edges of metal sheets, or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts include different types of splices joining the belt ends: film media splices secure the bond with a joining film that minimizes chatter marks and ensures smooth running and consistent finishing, while sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added strength to the joint area.
