The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3" x 21" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains bonded with resin to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed primarily for metal finishing, its closed coat construction provides a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely favored in industrial settings due to its high cut-rate, durability, and versatility across materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are strongly bonded to the cloth backing to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths suited for various belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts for sanding flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders, suitable for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belt ends are joined with specialized splices: a film media splice, which uses a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and a sine wave splice, made of interlocking fingers to reduce hinging, travel smoothly over contact wheels, and provide extra strength, typically used for coarser grits.
