The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, offering fast-cutting capability, continuous cut, and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing metal, with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and is effective for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used provides excellent cut-rate, durability, and longevity, and is effective on a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. The belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for wood and metal applications—wider belts are suited for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels or metal sheets, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Different splice types are available: film media splices provide secure bonding with joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth belt operation, and consistent finishing, while sine wave splices use interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area.
