The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed to provide continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide abrasive is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting efficiency, durability, and long life, suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive grains are strongly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for diverse applications on wood and metal, ranging from wide belts for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, to medium-width belts for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts suitable for portable sanders on wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends can be joined with different splice types: a film media splice uses a joining film to create a secure bond that minimizes chatter marks and ensures a smooth running belt with consistent finishing results, while a sine wave splice features interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added joint strength.
