The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features fast-cutting 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, where its closed coat construction offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut rate, durability, and long life, making it ideal for various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools used on wood and metal. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are for portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature splices that join their ends, with options such as film media splices that provide a secure bond minimizing chatter marks for smooth running and consistent finishes, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area.
