The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 6" x 274" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains bonded with resin to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing metal with closed coat construction that offers a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern, but it should not be run wet. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial applications for its cut rate, durability, and longevity, effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive grains are firmly adhered to the cloth backing, creating a strong bond capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. These belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools; wider belts are compatible with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders suitable for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, while narrow belts are intended for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending small wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belt uses splices to join its ends, with options including film media splice that ensures a secure bond to minimize chatter marks and maintain smooth, consistent finishes, and sine wave splice featuring interlocking fingers to reduce hinging, offer added joint strength, and ensure smooth travel over contact wheels, typically used for coarser grades.
