The 3M™ cloth belt 341D, measuring 6" x 285" with P120 grit aluminum oxide, features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; the belt should not be run wet. Aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, suitable for various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to the cloth backing, ensuring strong adhesion capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. The belt, at 6" width and 285" length, fits a range of belt sanding tools and applications from wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth rough-cut metal edges, to medium-width belts for edge sanding narrow flat surfaces, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts are joined using splices such as film media splices, which minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, or sine wave splices, constructed of interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength.
