The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 6 inches by 300 inches and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing. This design provides fast-cutting, continuous cut, and long-life performance ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications, particularly finishing on metal. The closed coat construction offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and the belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is commonly used in industrial applications due to its cut rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are strongly adhered to the cloth backing with resin, allowing the belt to withstand high heat and pressure during use. These abrasive belts vary in widths and lengths and are compatible with different belt sanding tools for sanding on wood and metal. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough cut edges of metal sheets, or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belts include splices that join the belt ends, with options like a film media splice, which uses a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and consistent finishing, and a sine wave splice composed of interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength.
