The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 6" x 300" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed to provide continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used is known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, applicable on a wide variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin to the cloth backing, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belts come in many widths and lengths for use on different belt sanding tools, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal edges, or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Various splice options are available, including film media splices for a secure bond minimizing chatter marks to ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers providing smooth travel over contact wheels, reducing hinging and adding joint strength.
