The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 8 inches by 107 inches and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. The belt is intended for dry use only and should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting rate, durability, and long life, and is effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are securely bonded to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit a range of belt sanding tools; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts are suited to edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are compatible with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature different splice types: film media splices create a secure bond with a joining film that minimizes chatter marks for smooth operation and consistent finishing, while sine wave splices employ interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
