The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 8" x 107" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting and continuous long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It offers a closed coat construction suitable for finishing metal, providing a consistent fine finish and the ability to produce a grain pattern, but it should not be used wet. Made with aluminum oxide mineral, a favored abrasive for its cut rate, durability, and long life, this belt is effective on a wide range of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are strongly bonded with resin to the cloth backing, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts are compatible with different belt sanding tools, including wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, edge sanders for flat narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and portable sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include different types of splices to join ends, such as film media splices that secure the bond with a joining film to minimize chatter marks and provide smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength, typically used for coarser grits.
