The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 9" x 108" and features 50 grit fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance essential for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for metal finishing, the closed coat construction ensures a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, the belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cut rate, durability, and longevity, applicable on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths to fit diverse belt sanding tools, wider belts are used with wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel, while medium and narrow widths suit edge sanders and portable belt sanders for flat, narrow surfaces and blending wood pieces respectively. The belts utilize splices to join ends, with options including film media splices for secure bonds that minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running belts, and sine wave splices consisting of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
