The 3M™ paper belt 346UZ is constructed with a premium aluminum oxide mineral featuring an open coat construction for loading resistance and is coated on an F-weight paper backing, which is one of the heaviest and most rigid paper backings available, delivering finer finishes than cloth-backed belts of the same grade. The belt measures 54 inches by 103 inches and includes 220 grit aluminum oxide abrasive, providing a high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention suitable for sanding and finishing applications on a wide variety of substrates including woodworking and metalworking, specifically ferrous alloys. The open coat structure resists loading better than closed coat belts, especially on soft wood, and incorporates 3M Dust Management Technology to reduce static cling in dust particles, enhancing dust evacuation when used with efficient dust collection systems. The belt ends are joined using a sine wave splice that improves belt strength, resists hinging and splice fatigue, travels smoothly over contact wheels and platens, minimizes chatter marks, and promotes smooth operation in either direction for consistent finishing results. This durable abrasive belt offers long life due to the self-fracturing nature of aluminum oxide, which exposes fresh cutting edges during use.
