The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 30" CRS grit aluminum oxide and is designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of belt sanding tools used on wood and metal. Wide belts are intended for sanding and finishing large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are suitable for metalworking file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing due to its sharpness, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering high cut-rate and long life, producing a finer finish despite silicon carbide breaking down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces and maintain efficiency by preventing clogging through small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as the belt moves around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straight-line brushed finishes, primarily used in the metalworking industry.
