The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/2" x 30" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral, which is hard and blocky, providing a high cut rate and long life. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a variety of belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are used on wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding and blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are suited for metalworking file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives; silicon carbide is very sharp, ideal for low-pressure paint prep and finishing but breaks down faster, producing a finer finish, while aluminum oxide delivers longer life and more aggressive cutting. Belt sanders enable rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing over various surfaces, maintaining efficiency by preventing clogging through small grooves in the belt that open as it moves around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straight line brushed finishes, primarily within the metalworking industry.
