The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measuring 1/4" x 18" features aluminum oxide CRS grit and is designed for detailed work such as blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. These durable belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs resulting from cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in multiple widths and lengths, Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts fit a wide range of belt sanding tools used on wood and metal. Wide belts are suited for sanding and finishing large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts attach to edge or portable belt sanders for work on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts are compatible with file tools in metalworking for accessing small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral, is ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut-rate and longer life, though silicon carbide yields a finer finish despite faster breakdown. Belt sanders employing these belts offer efficient rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces, with the belt design preventing clogging by allowing small grooves in the abrasive to open as they pass over the drive wheel arc.
