The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt, sized 1/4" x 18" and featuring aluminum oxide VFN grit, is designed for detailed work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring and deburring edges, fine and flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. This durable belt effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts fit a variety of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are used for sanding large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders suitable for wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking for small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives; silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure paint prep and finishing and produces a finer finish but breaks down faster, while aluminum oxide provides a high cut-rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts enable rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on multiple surfaces, maintaining efficiency by preventing clogging through small grooves in the belt that open as the belt moves around the drive wheel.
