The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2-1/2" by 48" and features medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives and are available in various widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders. Wide belts are suited for sanding and finishing large wood panels using wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are designed for metalworking file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral providing high cut rate and long life, while silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral, is used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing and produces a finer finish but breaks down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are used for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces and maintain efficiency without clogging since small grooves in the abrasive belt open as they rotate around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straight-line brushed finishes, primarily in metalworking industries.
