The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3" x 148" and features SFN grit silicon carbide abrasive. These SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, they are compatible with a range of industrial belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts are suited for file tools in metalworking to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are made with either silicon carbide, a synthetic mineral that is very sharp and ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and long life. Although silicon carbide breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a finer finish. Belt sanders equipped with these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, as the abrasive belt’s small grooves open while moving around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straightline brushed finish, especially suited for metalworking industries.
