The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 3" x 18" and features SFN grit silicon carbide abrasive, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit multiple industrial belt sanding tools suited for applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are intended for sanding and finishing large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable sanders used for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking to access small or inside corner areas. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic sharp mineral suitable for low-pressure tasks such as paint preparation and finishing, producing a finer finish but breaking down faster, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and longer life. Belt sanders facilitate rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces; unlike sanding wheels and discs that can clog quickly, belts maintain efficiency as small grooves in the abrasive open around the drive wheel. These belts are applicable for blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating straightline brushed finishes, primarily in the metalworking industry.
