The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 4 inches by 31-1/2 inches and features VFN grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are offered with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasives; silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral suited for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, producing a finer finish but wearing faster, while aluminum oxide provides high cut rates and long life due to its hard, blocky structure. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on different surfaces without clogging, as the belt's small grooves open when moving around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straight-line brushed finishes, primarily in the metalworking industry.
