The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1/4" x 18" and features a silicon carbide SFN grit. This durable belt is engineered for detailed tasks including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. It effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in many widths and lengths, these belts fit a variety of belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral, is suited for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide, a hard and blocky mineral, provides a high cut-rate and longer life. Although silicon carbide wears down faster than aluminum oxide, it results in a finer finish. Belt sanders equipped with these abrasive belts avoid clogging due to small grooves that open as the belt passes around the drive wheel, making them efficient for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on diverse surfaces. The belts accommodate wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking tools accessing small areas or inside corners.
