The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 4" x 51" and features a CRS grit aluminum oxide abrasive. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives, and are available in a variety of widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders. Wide belts are ideal for sanding and finishing large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts suit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking to reach small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured using either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is sharp and used for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral that offers a high cut-rate and long life, with silicon carbide providing a finer finish despite breaking down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts allow for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, thanks to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they pass around the arc of the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and producing a straight-line brushed finish, primarily in the metalworking industry.
