The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Durable Flex Belt measures 3" x 24" with a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. Its non-woven fiber material runs cool, resists loading, and endures edge work, while the aluminum oxide abrasive provides effective cutting action with consistent finishing performance throughout the belt's life. The belt is identifiable by its purple backing and uses aluminum oxide, a tough, durable mineral that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, resulting in high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention. This abrasive is widely used in grinding, sanding, and finishing applications on various substrates, including woodworking and metalworking materials such as ferrous alloys. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are suitable for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing without clogging due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around the drive wheel arc. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straight-line brushed finishing, primarily in the metalworking industry.
