The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 1" x 132" with medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. They are available in various widths and lengths for different belt sanding tools and applications on wood and metal. The belts are designed to fit wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable belt sanders used on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking with file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts feature either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is synthetic, sharp, and suited for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on varied surfaces without clogging because grooves in the abrasive open as they move around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish, commonly serving industries such as marine and metalworking.
