The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 1" x 18" and features aluminum oxide abrasive with medium grit designed for detailed work such as blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straight-line brushed finishes on various metals. These surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in multiple widths and lengths, they fit a broad range of industrial belt sanders; wide belts are suitable for sanding large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking access in small areas or inside corners. Aluminum oxide provides a hard, blocky abrasive mineral offering a high cut-rate and long life, making it more durable than silicon carbide, which, although sharper and ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, breaks down faster and produces a finer finish. These belts maintain efficiency by preventing clogging due to small grooves that open as the belt moves around the drive wheel.
