The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1" x 18" and features aluminum oxide VFN grit. This durable belt is engineered for detail work including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straightline-brushed finishes on various metals. It effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available in a variety of widths and lengths to fit most industrial belt sanders, accommodating applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are designed for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable sanders for wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts work with file tools in metalworking to reach small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing, producing a finer finish but breaking down faster, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral that offers a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders utilizing these belts perform rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing without clogging due to the abrasive belt’s design featuring small grooves that open around the drive wheel arc, maintaining efficiency during use.
