The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt, measuring 3" x 21", is designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit many belt sanding tools used on wood and metal. Wide belts are suited for large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking to access small areas or inside corners. These belts are manufactured with a choice between silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, and aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and long life. Silicon carbide tends to break down faster but yields a finer finish, while aluminum oxide provides durability. Belt sanders using these belts offer rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging due to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open around the drive wheel's arc. Applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straight-line brushed finish in metalworking industries.
