The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 4" x 60" and features VFN grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These belts come in various widths and lengths to fit industrial belt sanders suited for different applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable sanders for wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are designed for file tools in metalworking to access small areas or inside corners. The aluminum oxide abrasive offers a hard, blocky mineral structure that provides a high cut-rate and long life, distinguishing it from silicon carbide, which produces a finer finish but wears faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts enable rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across multiple surfaces while minimizing clogging due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they move around the drive wheel. The belts are suitable for applications including blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straightline brushed finishes, primarily for the metalworking industry.
