The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 2 inches by 132 inches and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grind lines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, they fit a range of industrial belt sanding tools for applications on both wood and metal. Wide belts are suitable for sanding and finishing large wood panels on wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are designed for use with file tools in metalworking to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide, a synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing due to its sharpness but faster breakdown, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral that offers a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these abrasive belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces, maintaining efficiency by preventing clogging through small grooves that open as the belt travels around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straightline brushed finish, primarily serving the metalworking industry.
