The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2" x 132" and features SFN grit silicon carbide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives, suitable for both wood and metal surfaces. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders, including wide belts for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used in cabinetry, and narrow belts for metalworking tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The silicon carbide abrasive is a synthetic mineral known for its sharpness and suitability for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, offering a finer finish though breaking down faster than aluminum oxide. The belts allow rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing without clogging due to small grooves in the abrasive that open around the arc of the drive wheel, maintaining efficiency compared to sanding wheels and discs. Common applications include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, grain setting, stainless steel finishing, and straight-line brushed finishing, primarily within the metalworking industry.
