The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2" x 17-3/4" and features a medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. Available in various widths and lengths, the belts fit a range of industrial belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are suited for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts are ideal for edge or portable belt sanders used on cabinet doors and similar wood pieces, while narrow belts work with file tools in metalworking to reach small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are made with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide, a sharp synthetic mineral, is used for low-pressure paint prep and finishing applications, producing a finer finish but wearing faster, whereas aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering high cut rates and extended life. Belt sanders provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces, outperforming sanding wheels or discs by resisting clogging due to the small grooves on the belts that open around the drive wheel arc. Common applications include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and producing a straightline brushed finish, predominantly in metalworking industries.
