The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt measures 2" x 18-15/16" and is designed for removing coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders for sanding large wood panels, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts are suited for metalworking with file tools to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, producing a finer finish but breaking down faster, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut-rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, as the abrasive belts’ small grooves open when passing around the drive wheel. Applicable processes include blending, corner blending, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish, primarily in metalworking industries.
