The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2-1/2" x 60" with medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These belts are available in various widths and lengths, compatible with a range of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. They fit wide belt sanders used for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders on wood pieces like cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The belts feature either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals: silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral suitable for low-pressure tasks such as paint preparation and finishing, while aluminum oxide provides a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on multiple surfaces, maintaining efficiency without clogging due to the small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they pass over the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish, primarily serving the metalworking industry.
