The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 9" x 48" with VFN grit made from aluminum oxide. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. They come in various widths and lengths to fit a wide range of industrial belt sanding tools, suitable for applications on wood and metal. Wide belts are used for sanding and finishing large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for tasks like sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are used with file tools in metalworking to access small or inside corners. The belts are available with silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals: silicon carbide is a sharp synthetic mineral suitable for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing, producing a finer finish but with shorter life, while aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral offering high cut-rate and long life. Belt sanders provide rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, unlike sanding wheels or discs, due to small grooves in the abrasive belt opening as they move around the arc of the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straightline brushed finish, primarily in metalworking industries.
