The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 1-1/2" x 132" and features medium grit aluminum oxide abrasive. These Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives and are available in various widths and lengths to fit a variety of industrial belt sanding tools used on wood and metal applications. Wide belts are suited for sanding and finishing large wood panels with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge or portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts are ideal for use with file tools in metalworking to access small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with either silicon carbide, a synthetic and very sharp mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral that provides a high cut rate and long life; aluminum oxide belts offer greater durability while silicon carbide produces a finer finish but breaks down faster. Belt sanders equipped with these belts allow rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces and maintain efficiency by preventing clogging through grooves that open around the drive wheel’s arc. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving a straightline brushed finish, primarily in marine and metalworking industries.
