The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ durable flex belt measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and is made with a non-woven fiber material that runs cool, resists loading, and withstands edge work. It features aluminum oxide abrasives, known for effective cutting action and consistent finishing performance over the life of the belt. The purple backing distinguishes this belt, which utilizes aluminum oxide for its high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention. This abrasive self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges during use, making it suitable for grinding, sanding, and finishing on various substrates, including woodworking and ferrous alloys in metalworking industries. Aluminum oxide is widely used in grinding applications, providing extended life compared to traditional abrasives like garnet. Belt sanders equipped with this belt prevent clogging due to small grooves that open around the arc of the drive wheel, maintaining sanding efficiency. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straightline brushed finishes.
