The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ durable flex belt measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features a non-woven fiber material that runs cool, resists loading, and withstands edge work, combined with aluminum oxide abrasives for effective cutting action and consistent finishing performance. The belt is identified by its purple backing and uses aluminum oxide, a tough, durable abrasive known for its high cut-rate and long life, which self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges during use. Aluminum oxide is suitable for woodworking and metalworking on a wide variety of substrates, including ferrous alloys, due to its hardness, strength, and low heat retention. This belt is ideal for use with belt sanders, which maintain efficiency without clogging thanks to small grooves in the abrasive belt that open as they pass around the drive wheel. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and creating a straightline brushed finish.
