The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 5" x 130" with a VFN grit aluminum oxide abrasive mineral, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives on wood and metal surfaces. These belts are compatible with a variety of industrial belt sanders, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. Scotch-Brite™ SC belts are manufactured with a choice between silicon carbide, a very sharp synthetic mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, and aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering high cut-rate and long life; aluminum oxide provides a coarser abrasive while silicon carbide breaks down faster but results in a finer finish. Belt sanders employing these belts are effective for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing as the small grooves in the abrasive belt prevent clogging by opening around the drive wheel arc. Suitable applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine and flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and straightline brushed finishes, primarily used in metalworking industries.
