The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Belt 4" x 90" SFN Grit Silicon Carbide is designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives on wood and metal surfaces. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, including wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used in applications like sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking file tools accessing small areas or inside corners. The Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available with silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic, very sharp mineral ideal for low-pressure applications like paint preparation and finishing, producing a finer finish though it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral that offers a high cut rate and long life. Belt sanders equipped with these belts perform rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on various surfaces without clogging, as small grooves in the abrasive belt open while moving around the arc of the drive wheel. The belts are used for applications such as blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and producing a straightline brushed finish, primarily serving the metalworking industry.
