The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 37 inches by 60 inches and features VFN grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed for detailed work including blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring edges, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and achieving straight-line brushed finishes on various metals. It effectively removes coarse grindlines, mill marks, and small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. The abrasive belt is manufactured in various widths and lengths to fit industrial belt sanders ranging from wide belts for large wood panels to medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders used in woodworking, and narrow belts for metalworking with file tools to reach small areas or inside corners. Scotch-Brite™ SC belts utilize either silicon carbide, a synthetic sharp mineral suited for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing, or aluminum oxide, a hard, blocky mineral offering a high cut rate and longer life; although silicon carbide breaks down faster, it yields a finer finish. Belt sanders apply the belt for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing across many surfaces and outperform sanding wheels and discs by avoiding clogging due to the small grooves on the belt that open as it moves around the drive wheel.
