The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ surface conditioning belt measures 2" x 48" and features SFN grit silicon carbide abrasive, designed to remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths for compatibility with many belt sanding tools and diverse applications on both wood and metal. Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are available with either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive minerals; silicon carbide is a synthetic, sharp mineral suitable for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing, producing finer finishes though it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, which offers a high cut rate and long life due to its hard, blocky nature. The belts are used in wide belt sanders for large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders ideal for cabinet doors, and narrow belts for metalworking tools to reach small areas or inside corners. Belt sanders equipped with these belts resist clogging due to small grooves that open around the drive wheel arc, allowing continuous sanding efficiency on various surfaces. Typical applications include blending, blending corners, cleaning, contour finishing, deburring, fine finishing, flat finishing, setting the grain, stainless steel finishing, and producing straightline brushed finishes, primarily in metalworking industries.
